Dual Tech Detectors
A dual tech sensor eliminates false alarms. It needs to detect both movement and temperature change (heat increase or decrease) to trigger an alarm. Movement or temperature changes individually won’t trigger an alarm. The sensor is made up of two parts: A microwave sensor detects any air changes caused by moving objects; a PIR part of the sensor detects any heat sources (for example body heat) against background heat. Dual Tech sensors are usually installed in kitchens, garages and conservatories where rapid temperature changes can occur which - on their own - could trigger a false alarm.
PIR motion detectors
PIR motion detectors use infrared technology to detect any heat source movements (body heat) against background heat or the ambient temperature of the room. False alarms can occur when there is a rapid change in temperature, so these sensors are used in areas where the ambient temperature is reasonably constant – usually bedrooms, stairwells and hallways. PIR motion detectors will not detect mineral flying objects (for example a brick thrown through a window).
Animal Immune PIR
Animal immune PIR sensors work the same way as standard PIR. They use digital technology to actually look at the objects in the protected area and positively recognise them over a period of time. They are able to tell the difference between animals and a human over full area, using multiple zone coverage from floor to ceiling. However they do have limitations. We can only recommend fitting them if your pet is left alone in your house using a fixed cage (the sensor “learns” that your pet is moving around in a specific zone). In cases where dogs and cats are allowed to roam around the home we prefer to install window sensors.
Window Sensors
A window sensor is fitted to windows or glass panels when it is not suitable to fit PIR or Dual Tech sensors. The unit can be configured with high or low sensitivity settings. This allows a high sensitivity setting for larger windows or glass panels and a lower setting more suitable for smaller windows or glass panels. The sensor can be mounted anywhere on the panel or window and triggers the alarm when someone tries to force or break the window.
